Does The Church Need To Change With The Times? The Late Show with Howard Conder and Jeremy Park.

There are many teachings in the bible that were first written thousands of years ago and many lay people including church leaders are saying they want to change or completely modernise the bible in order for the church to be more inclusive.

Jeremy Park and Howard Conder hosted the programme when it aired ‘live’ on the 25th of January 2023 in Revelation Tv’s London studios.

Basically, there are two camps; One camp is Those who want to see the Biblical teaching to be changed and some want scriptural doctrine to be outlawed and prosecutions brought against those who teach using scriptures that appear to be anti-gay.

The Christian Institute’s Simon Calvert said the latest initiative showed “Some LGBT campaigners are set on obtaining a veto on Christian preaching, prayer and pastoral care”.
“This is an attempt to exploit revulsion over conversion therapy to criminalise evangelical Christianity”.

Points to consider:
Some would argue that God did not or would not condemn Homosexuals. Some say that God created them in the first place.

Let’s first consider what the bible says about sexual relationships period.

Is Homosexuality worse than the other sins listed in scripture? Eg Romans chapter 1, 1 Corinthians chapter 6 v 9. Leviticus.

To me, those who practise any of the sexual acts listed particularly in the new testament scriptures are all considered to be sinful and therefore forbidden…. It would be good to consider why would a loving God who created us, prohibit us from enjoying sex. There are scriptures that specifically mention such pleasure, but they are confined between a man and a woman, both married to each other.

When I (Howard) read in scripture on the laws on cleanliness in Leviticus, I can see that God is instructing us how to best live our lives and have life in abundance….

His laws are not that He is wielding a big stick, not at all…. His laws are so because He loves and cares for his creation to the point, He wants the best for us. Think about His laws on not eating certain foods, which He being the creator of all creatures including mankind knows what will be harmful to our health and it’s the same for when we have sexual relationships, keeping to one partner will save us from venereal diseases.

Scriptures:
Romans 1:26–27 is commonly cited as one instance of New Testament teaching against homosexuality:
“That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved”.[32]

Hebrews 13:8, KJV: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.

Hebrews chapter 2 verse 12:
“For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of Spirit, of joints and of marrow, discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Is the Bible really God’s word? Jesus said to Pilot Thy word is truth

Jesus’s discussion of marriage and divorce:
In Matthew 19 and parallel in Mark 10, Jesus is asked if a man can divorce his wife. In that context, Jesus replies:
He answered, “Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female’,[64] and said, ‘For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?[65] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

1 Corinthians 6:9, NIV: Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men”.

John chapter 8 verses 4:
“Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?” 11“No one, Lord,” she answered. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Now go and sin no more.”

The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, apparently confirmed in a BBC interview that he believes that sexual immorality is not sinful.

Coming from a high-ranking Spiritual Leader in the Church of England, this statement does not help when it contradicts many scriptures and even negates the reason for Christ coming to earth and willingly laying down His life for sinful mankind.
Is sexual immorality sinful?

There is so much more to be written but only allowed 5,000 characters. and we were well over that number so have had to take half of what we wanted to say. Therefore, I hope you can still make sense of what I have left in this description of what the contents of this programme covered.
