Joe Brown, surely this is a miracle?
This entry is part 5 of 21 in the series Howard Conder's Life Stories

God shows Howard Conder in a dream the wife of Joe Brown as if she were alive.

This would be a good time to share the account wherein a dream the Lord asked Howard to go and speak to Joe Brown about what he saw in this dream, and this was many years after Howard had stopped playing the drums for Joe and the Bruvvers.
This must have been around the time Joe’s first wife, Vicky had already died of cancer (1991) and it was in the dream when Howard was ringing the doorbell at the entrance of Joe’s home and Joe said with a big smile on his face, ‘Hello Mate”.
As Howard was invited into the garden area and was about to walk towards the house, he saw running up behind Joe his deceased wife Vicky who said to Howard “Who is going to tell Joe?”
At first, Howard was shocked at seeing Vicky as he knew that she had already passed away and when she spoke to Howard from behind Joe, Howard realised that Joe was totally unaware of Vicky’s presence and more importantly Joe did not hear Vicky say to Howard ‘Who is going to tell Joe”.

When the dream finished, Howard said he was more than a little confused about the dream and what it meant. He said that he asked the Lord to explain what and why he was shown all that he saw and heard in the dream and apparently God said that he wanted Howard to go to see Joe and tell him about the dream and that God wants Joe to know that there is Life after Death.
Apparently, Howard said to God, “I don’t know how to get in contact with Joe and if I did, I am a little afraid of telling Joe as he is quite anti-Christian” (that was the impression Howard had of Joe’s position from past experience).
Little did Howard know that Joe’s daughter Sam Brown also had similar views on death but changed her views after her mother’s death to being of a mind that there was life after death.

Anyway, in the meantime, God kept reminding Howard about the dream and to get in touch with Joe Brown.
Only God could have arranged what happened next. Howard, Lesley and their two sons, Luke and Joel had recently returned from driving all the way to Romania with aid for the orphaned Children in Arad, Northwest Romania.
They had transformed an old Post Office Van into a camper van where it had sleeping accommodation for the four of them and had cooking facilities etc and room for clothes for the abandoned babies in orphanages.
The Conders had recently returned to the UK from a trip to Romania and were trying to sell this van to raise enough funds to return to Romania as they had arranged with one of the maternity hospitals in Romania to try and adopt an abandoned baby. Therefore, selling the van was very important.

So, they went to a place in North London where every Sunday morning those who wanted to buy or sell Camper Vans like the famous VW camper vans would go there to view all that was available.
The Conder’s van which you will see in the photos and or video was the ugliest of camper vans you have ever seen especially when compared to the unique and highly wanted VW Camper vans.
So, this made it much harder for the Conders to find a buyer. Howard remembers that it was a very cold and bleak day, and their van just did not present well from the outside although it was very practical in its layout and amenities inside the van. Therefore, it meant having the back doors wide open which meant for the three hours that Howard and Lesley were there trying to find a buyer, in the end, they were so cold.

They did have one offer from a dealer for about the third of the price which they needed to return to Romania, which the Conders turned down.
After three hours the Conders decided to shut the back doors and got into the van and Howard said before we leave, let us pray. Howard prayed ‘Heavenly Father, you know we need to sell this van and I know its an ugly van but let someone come by right now and say, “I Love Your Van”, and “that they would pay the full asking price of £2,300, in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen”. If you know Howard very well, you will know that was a typical tongue in cheek way of speaking.

Conders converted van

Having said Amen, Howard was just about to drive away, and a car suddenly stopped right by the side of their van and wound down its window and this young woman said exactly the words of Howard’s prayer saying “I absolutely LOVE YOUR VAN”
Then a couple got out of their car and looked inside the van through the back doors and said to Howard “This is just what we need to go touring in”. As this young woman spoke, Howard sort of recognised from the timber of her voice that it reminded him of someone he knew from the past. So Howard said to her “Excuse me, but you sound like someone I used to work for many years ago”, “Who was that” the young woman said? Howard said “Joe Brown”. The woman replied, “That’s my dad, I am Sam Brown his daughter!”

Sam Brown

Sam Brown the daughter of Joe Brown

Sam Brown was a famous singer in her own right at the time, but Howard did not recognise her due to the bobble hat she was wearing which covered most of her face.

Anyway, this was not only an answer to Howard’s prayer in selling the van, but he also said to Sam that he needed to get in contact with her dad.  He did not say what it was regarding, and Sam said that Howard should call the number on a card she gave him and said it was her dad’s manager and then arrange to meet up with her dad.

Sam said she didn’t have funds on her to pay for the van right there and then but said that she would come over the following day to where the Conders were staying in Thames Ditton and pay the full asking price. Sam did just as she said she would do and the next day she came to where the Conders were staying and bought the van. Truly another answer to prayer!

Howard managed to write a letter and explain the dream and its meaning and sent it to Joe Brown’s manager, headed for the attention of Joe Brown. To this day Howard has not received a reply.

Howard believes that that dream would have brought great comfort to the Brown family and God willing, someone will pass this account onto Joe and to his daughter Sam, especially if for some reason the manager didn’t pass Howard’s message on to Joe.
